Building a Sports Social Network to Help Humanity
65Thoughts Inspired by Building a Sports Social Network
I keep on sharing my thoughts about how useful a team of web designers and developers can be for the society. We are currently working on a sports social network called WebSportsHub and it occurred to me that sports are, in fact, extremely important not only for individual athletes and fans but also for the entire society. Why? Because sports allow human beings to let steam off in one of the most harmful and fun ways.
Human beings (aka Homo sapiens) are bestowed by God with much more advanced brains in comparison with other beings living on Earth. This great gift is both our happiness and the cause of all troubles. Some extra milliards of brain сells allow people to find pleasures in many things which are unavailable to animals. We enjoy contemplating and creating arts, we love communication with each other, traveling, reading, parting and so on… Even thing that animals also do such as sex and eating are more pleasant to us. We love to love things, but the problem is that people never get enough of things they love and want to possess. And even when it seems that a person gets all he/she needs, the person is looking for more to stimulate his/her mind which is too advanced to ever content itself. That is why the whole life of a human being is, in fact, the process of setting and achieving goals necessary to get something they need and want. All we do is aimed at achieving certain goals. A person wants to get this and get that, and if someone else gets something that the person has not got yet, the person wants to get it even more. And if we do not achieve a set goal or it takes too long to reach it, we feel frustrated, stressed and angry. It may cause any kind of reactions and negative feelings including frustration, depression, hate, envy, irritation etc. Well, this is our nature and not everyone can control desires our mind constantly generates. Controlling desires and temptations is the biggest challenge a human being can face. No wonder the Paradise is promised by many religions for those who can control their bodies and minds. But in most cases our lives are the race for achieving goals and satisfying desires shared by the most of us. We live in constant rivalry and win things from others or lose things to someone. When you marry a person you love, in fact, you win this person from other potential partners. When you buy a Porsche, you win it from others who could have had your job to be able to afford buying this expensive car.
Over the last 4000 years of human history, one can hardly count 300 years without wars in any country. Wars are mostly caused by men’s desire to posses more and protected what is already possessed. Humans never stop wanting to win more power and treasure in any sphere of life ranging from a job at an office to international political relationships of governments. This desire accumulates as steam in a boiler building up a dangerous pressure. And it is quite important to let the steam off from time to time.
There is one of the most successful remedies to appease humans’ innate desire to win and possess at the expense of others. This remedy is called sports. Sports are, in fact, a miniature war but without any casualties and in a form of a fun game designed to let people win a price. Both athletes and fans work out their bodies by playing or shouting/dancing/jumping, feel the thrill of competition and release the energy aimed at winning. If your team wins, you feel happy as the goal, however minor it was, is achieved and the desire of winning is temporary satisfied. Even if your team loses, however frustrated you may be, you still have hope for future success and you never loose the goal to reach.
When sports were invented people got the chance to beat their opponents without actually beating them (or beating within certain fair rules at least) while pleasing their ego anyway. Nations got another way to win recognition and elevate their pride without bloody wars. Having being introduced into the life of mankind, sports made another perfect pressure release valve in the steam boiler holding the pressure of human desire to compete and win.
This article may seem strange or wrongful to you. But I do not care much about what people might think about my interpretation of the role of sports in human life. I just wanted to share some thoughts on how important sports are at the scale of the human civilization and it was kinda fun to discover the entire depth of sports importance. Probably, I am digging to deep, but, being engaged in building of a sports social network for fans, athletes and coaches which is supposed to attract more people to sporting events, I am proud to be helpful in setting another solid block into the foundation preventing the social disasters as there are at list a few very obvious benefits of sports that make it worth applying any efforts in the direction of supporting and augmenting sports popularity. These benefits are very easy to see:
- Sports keep our bodies fit and healthy;
- Sports bring more fun into our lives;
- Sports keep us and our children from drugs and some other bad habits;
- Sports teach us to play fair;
- Sports give us the excitement of winning and teach us how to lose with dignity;
- Sports create millions of jobs;
- Sports help develop infrastructure of many towns and cities;
- Sports give great career opportunities for athletes;
- Sports create goals to achieve and dreams to strive for.

Sports have been unique in creating unity of nations over the years. Take for example the Christmas day Soccer game between British and German troops during World War 2. I think sports already have exceptionally good social networks set up however they are more invisible and need some clarity. Great idea- I hope it works well for you. CF
